Wrestling, or puroresu as the Japanese call their form of wrestling, was very popular. This artists depicts to men wrestling with trainers watching. Black is a localized color in this print. Muscles of the men are clearly defined, and balck outlines each figure from the background.

Bushi or buke, what Japanese call samurai, would sometimes duel against one another. This artist depicts two samurai, dressed in green and black, dueling. In the background, there are more samurai, running or on horses. Again, black is a localized color, and it leads the viewer's eye through the print. Samurai were middle to upper class men.

This is a different artist's depiction of a samurai duel. The background is patterned with green checks and gold beads. There are spots of red throughout the print. Samurai wore fancy attire, such as long robes with elaborate designs.
